'Richard Threlfall' the business was established 170 years ago, and became known throughout the world as a leading textile engineering company.

The current Chairman, Richard Hurst, proudly continues the involvement of the Hurst family in the business, which dates back to 1883, when Richard Threlfall's son-in-law became the proprietor. In 1959 the company embarked on a period of diversification, reducing the dependency on the manufacture of textile machinery. This involved the acquisition of other business, including airport ground equipment and mining equipment, as well as experimenting with the design of valves.

The development of the valve business lead to the supply of valves for use on British submarines and vessels, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Defence. So successful was this that 'The Orseal Valve' was eventually supplied to 11 other navies throughout the world, as well as being used in chemical plants, fire-fighting equipment, the gas industry and offshore installations.

In recent years Orseal has developed a successful valve distribution service while continuing working on turnkey projects throughout the world. The group has a long and successful tradition of responding successfully to changes in markets, technology and demand, and has a policy of continuous new product development which has allowed the business to survive and thrive where others have failed.

Orseal takes pride in providing exceptionally high levels of technical advice and customer service, with a strong emphasis on quality, evidenced by having gained accreditation to BS EN IS0 9001-2000, one of the first companies in the UK to achieve this.

G B Silicone Technology manufactures and distributes liquid silicone rubber, with rubber compounding and pigment dispersion becoming a core activity.
